£11,933 pro rata per annum including accommodation

Gone are the days when a Youth Hostel was the only option for students looking for cheap and basic accommodation. Now we are a thriving organisation, with some 200 Youth Hostels across England and Wales. We are open to anyone who is looking for a warm welcome, comfortable accommodation and good food — all at affordable prices.

As a General Assistant with us, you'll be the public face of YHA. These are great roles for people looking for something really different, great fun and very practical. From meeting and greeting guests, cleaning, cooking and generally making everyone's stay something great to remember — you'll find no two days are the same.

And, what's more, you could find yourself based in fantastic locations in towns, cities and the best countryside of England and Wales to enjoy the sights, culture or outdoor activities.

But, it's not for everyone; some days can be long and unpredictable. It's all about team work, mucking in and working hard. So, if you have an outgoing personality, are prepared to roll up your sleeves and do what needs to be done, then we want to hear from you.

We're holding an assessment centre, where we will be assessing your suitability for the role. This will be a fantastic opportunity for you to meet us and us to meet you. You'll experience first hand what it's like to work here, see what we do and how we do it.

First step though is to complete our on line application form by clicking here

We look forward to hearing from you.

Safeguarding children from harm is our absolute priority and all candidates will undertake an enhanced CRB check. Applications from non UK nationals who have not been resident in the UK for five years will require a fully translated police report from their country of origin.

Find out the answers to some typical questions we get asked

Can I apply if I live outside the UK?

Yes you can, providing you have all the correct documents at the time you return your application form to us. If you are from a EU country, you will be required to present your original passport/identity card to us at interview. However if you are a non EU resident, you will be required to provide proof that you are eligible to work in the UK. So as well as your passport, you will need to present us with a working visa. Please note that YHA are unable to apply for working visas for you.

What if I can't work the whole season?

As most of our Youth Hostels need staff to start between January and April, we need people who are able to work a minimum of 6-9 months. However, we do have a few short-term vacancies in the summer months. If you are only looking for work for one month, then we are sorry but we can't help you as this is too short a period to get you fully trained.

Do I need any qualifications to become a General Assistant?

No, as long as you are enthusiastic and not afraid of hard work, then we are looking for you.

Can I apply with a partner or friend?

We do have positions available for couples/friends; however these positions are filled quite quickly. If you would like the opportunity to work with someone else then please apply early.

How old do I need to be to work for YHA?

Ideally, you'll need to be over 18 years due to Health & Safety reasons.
