6.30am... I’m up early this morning, third day of being a Volunteer and I’m loving it! I’m helping Miranda out in the kitchen this morning. Third day already – time flies!
7.15am: Downstairs with Miranda and Sam who are rushing around getting everything ready, I’m helping out too, already feeling part of the team. We’re getting breakfasts ready, awaiting the hungry guests!
8.30am: Its all happened this morning, coffee machine broke down temporarily, lots of guests getting through breakfast, stories left right and centre of the previous day. I’ve already met so many interesting people already its great. I’m learning so much too.
11.00am: Breakfasts are done, I’ve helped checked some people out, Miranda helped with the booking systems and now I think I’ve pretty much got it. Got most things cleaned up in the kitchen and did a quick run tidying up the place. Hectic, but everything is running as it should, just think I could be laying around at home with nothing to do! Boring! My thoughts turn to our painting job that we’re doing this later today.
11am: I’m a bit of a photographer buff, done a few weddings in my time which is always exciting, but I’ve got the opportunity to update some of the images on the website so I’m out this morning capturing some snaps. It’s a beautiful day so I reckon I’ll get some good ones. Such a beautiful morning so great to be out. The scenery here is amazing.
12.00: Where did that morning go? I’ve got a few hours spare now, so off exploring, taking my camera with me, see what I can snap. Oh best get some lunch too.
4.00pm: There’s an old function room that’s a bit run down, don’t think its been used for a while so we’re giving it a bit of a tart up this week, we did the prep earlier in the week, today we’re giving it a lick of paint.
6.00pm: Covered in paint but, we’ve got the first coat on, its going to look great when its done. DIY is not normally my thing but there’s half a dozen of us so its all good fun. Half a tin of paint got kicked over but luckily we had sheets down – phew, could have been nasty!
7pm: Quick shower thankfully emulsion comes off quite easy, I’ve got a bar shift to do tonight - the atmosphere is great and really social – both sides of the bar!
8.45pm: That’s me done, another day with so much packed in seems like two. Miranda was talking to me about the Do it for Real camps, she did one last year and said it was amazing especially if you like working with kids and getting outside. Think I’ll look into that for the summer.
